As Summer Winds Down, MAAF Keeps Moving!
Summer winds down and MAAF keeps winding up. August brought a number of new members to MAAF and its Affiliate groups, as well as a number of PCS moves that shuffled individuals and families to new locations. MASH Ft Campbell is keeping up with the trivia circuit, and adding new activities, including movie nights, karakoe events, and other social activies. CENTEX MAAF has continued to meet biweekly over meals, building camraderie and friendships.
KMC MAAF held three Presentation events, discussing topics such as Skepticism, basic logic, and evaluating claims as a group to learn more about themselves and the world around them. They also enjoyed the social aspects of discussion and debate as a group over pints at the local pub. The MAAF Moms group they started in Kaiserslautern met again in August as well.
MASH Ft Bragg has also been busy, from participating in MWR Fun Runs to Critical Drinking nights. Members attended the local Librari-Con in Fayetteville, an annual anime, graphic novels, and science fiction mini convention. For Ingersoll Day, this MASH group carried out a book exchange and met together over a meal at a local restaurant. Toward the end of August, Fort Bragg MASH began planning for their end of year fundraiser, which supports a local foodbank. If you would like to contribute to their efforts, you are able to make donations here.
Since the group’s inception in July of 2013, MASH-JBSA at Lackland Air Force Base has had over 3,500 Airmen attend one or more of the group’s weekly support meetings. This group has been actively holding support meetings for trainees at the base, and were recently featured on the Ra-Men podcast. You can hear more about this group’s activities through the interview here. JBSA-MASH members also did a service project with Atheists and Humanists Helping the Homeless, which collected supplies for the homeless, and distributed those items to the needy.
MAAF Guam, Stewart/Hunter AAF, and MAAF Redstone held monthly meetings, in the efforts of bringing together community members to build up the newest affiliate groups and hit the ground running. If you are in any of those areas, please reach out to the local leaders and get involved!
At MAAF National, Rose has created a virtual “walking” team for MAAF, in partnership with the Beyond Belief Network teams, to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s annual Light the Night Walk. Walks will be held all over the country in October, and this will be the third year MAAF has put forward a fundraising team. All funds collected will benefit the LLS/LTN campaign. You can visit our team page to join our team as a fundraiser (walking is optional!), or to donate today. Your participation in the Light the Night Walk will save lives today. Every dollar makes a difference, please share what you can spare, and encourage your friends, family, and coworkers to do the same. Join MAAF, BBN, and LLS to wipe out blood cancer!
