Ft Bragg Approves Rock Beyond Belief
For nearly a year, Justin Griffith, recently appointed Military Director of American Atheists, has received approval from Army officials to hold an atheist festival at Ft Bragg. Rock Beyond Belief will be a free festival for military personnel and the local community on March 31st, 2012. National personalities and rock bands will be posted at rockbeyondbelief.com as details are confirmed. In addition to the core entertainment, visitors can expect vendors, child care, service projects, parachutists, and a warm-up party.
This has been made possible by months of effort on Justin’s part to start with. Many speakers and performers will be appearing at reduced cost. The Stiefel Freethought Foundation has donated funding to cover any overage in costs.
The major obstacles for the initial event included Ft Bragg’s refusal to provide the same funding, venue, and endorsement they provided the “Rock the Fort” event that was sponsored by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Funding and resources have been worked out to the satisfaction of the event organizers. The main post parade field is being provided, rather than the smaller indoor venue offered by forth by Ft Bragg. Ft Bragg had originally required disclaimers of endorsement, but that will no longer be necessary.
After a long fight, Justin has put this event on, and the atheist community should put March 31st on their calendar for a trip to Ft Bragg for a great, patriotic event.
