Remembering Foxhole Atheist and Police Officer Tori Aletheia

MAAF is remembering Tori Aletheia who died last week. MAAF featured her life-saving police work in 2014. Her husband Zach is receiving a lot of support from Iowa Atheists & Freethinkers. Their last name, “Aletheia,” means truth. They chose it together in favor of their old names. Included below is Zach’s short remembrance to the Iowa Donor Network. Tori was an organ donor and the tragedy of her death turned into life for others. Here is what Zach had to say.

Tori Aletheia was an Army National Guard spy and Des Moines police officer who relished busting DWIs. She would not be constrained by gender expectations and was tenacious about her values and desires — even if she was secretly sweet and goofy. Tori and I had been a couple since 2002 when we were in high school. She was my first true love, the Doer of the Things, and a steady hand through the rough tides of life.
MAAF would like to recognize member Tori Aletheia’s recent Foxhole Atheist Heroism; Tori and her partner on the police force saved a local family of eight from a burning home on March 25, 2014.

Here is an article from the Des Moines Register. Her father Bruce Crum said, “If I had a question or a problem with something, I’d bounce things off her to get her input. She was a rock for me in many ways.”
