Meet the Fine Folks with MASH Fort Bragg!

Ft Bragg School Supply Fundraiser July 2014

MASH Ft Bragg members deliver the group’s donation of school supplies to Ferguson-Easley Elementary School

Are you headed to Fort Bragg?  Are you there currently?  Are you looking for a group of free thinking individuals who make a difference in their community?  You’ve come to the right place!  Meet up with MASH Fort Bragg.

They are a social organization of active military, veterans, dependents and civilians, in the Fayetteville and Sandhills area of North Carolina providing atheists, agnostics, freethinkers and secular humanists with opportunities to connect with like-minded people in the Fort Bragg area, and have a lot of fun while they build their interNOfaith community.

They are ready to welcome you and your entire family, whether you just want to enjoy the many social activities, community activism and service, or if you are ready to take a leadership role. They have different ways you can utilize to reach out and get involved:

This group gets out into their community to make a difference to those in need.  Currently, MASH Fort Bragg is conducting their fall fundraiser, a Solstice Food Drive for the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina.  They will be collecting donations of their food donations or cash (to purchase food items with) until December 21st.  If you would like to make a monetary donation to help this group make their goal, you may do so through their PayPal account.

Or, if you’re local and want to donate food items, the Food Bank welcomes non-perishable products, sealed beverages, refrigerated or frozen items, or produce as well as non-food essentials such as hygiene items, cleaning items or paper products. The most needed items include:

•Canned Fruits, Vegetables, Meat, and Soup (Pop-top cans and low sodium a plus!) •Whole Grain Pasta, Brown Rice, Dried Beans, and Cereal •Peanut Butter •For Infants: Formula, Infant Cereal, Diapers, and Wipes •For Kids: Fruit Cups, Juice Boxes, Granola Bars, Crackers, Popcorn and Sugar-Free Pudding Cups •Non-Food Essentials: Hygiene Items, Household Items, and Paper Products

*Please – No loose glass and plastic jars of baby food as they will have to be discarded due to health regulations

MASH Fort Bragg is a firm supporter of the Ferguson-Easley Elementary School (which is the only Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math School in Fayetteville).  Earlier this year, this group raised enough funds to donate notebooks, pencils, crayons, rulers, glue sticks and colored pencils.  This donation provided a notebook and pencil for every child in the school!  MASH Fort Bragg supports this school because within the STEM curriculum, students learn valuable critical thinking skills crucial to producing rational and scientifically literate students. The school is located in a poor neighborhood and depends on every donation made.

Ft Bragg – Farewell Dinner June 2014

This group is more than just community service; it is a community!  The members of MASH Fort Bragg come together socially once or twice a month to meet and mingle, talk, and support one another as individuals, and as a group.  Every group member is valued, and missed when they depart.  Farewell parties are often a common place event in military communities, but MASH Fort Bragg tries to make them meaningful events.  New members are welcomed with open arms to holiday barbeques, dinners out, parties in homes, MWR runs, and more.  They have attended local concerts and festivals as a group, hosted round table discussions, and more.  MASH Fort Bragg tries to schedule a Critical Drinking event once a month, where group members can come together over a tasty beverage and discuss various topics.  They will also be holding a Winter Solstice Celebration, as a time to get together as a community of likeminded individuals.

MASH Fort Bragg is an Affiliate of the Military Association of Atheists & Freethinkers, and also has strong working relationships with American Atheists, Camp Quest South Carolina, Foundation Beyond Belief, and the Military Religious Freedom Foundation.

So if you find yourself headed to Fort Bragg, fear not fellow Freethinker!  There is a community waiting to welcome you with a wide variety of friendly activities.
